I wanted to see the large murals I’d created between 2016 and 2019 unrolled and up on a wall somewhere, almost anywhere.  I had no wall space in my home studio. It was the end of May 2020, my teaching gig was over, the pandemic had affected me, a sort of cabin fever. I got up one morning and began looking for a space where I could work and exhibit art. I liked the first place I saw. On an unoccupied third floor of a professional building, it had no foot traffic, and the rent was high. The owners wanted me to sign a three year lease. I continued looking all over West Maui. Nothing was as good as that first spot. I signed the lease and became a renter. It took several months and lots of work and money to convert a lawyer’s office into a gallery and studio workspace.
